Immunization Code Changes – In The Middle of Flu Shot Season!

So by now most of you are aware that G539 and G591 have been deleted from the fee Schedule, but are you aware of the new immunization codes that have been added to the Schedule of Benefits?

The new immunization codes that have been added are:
G840 – Quadrivalent vaccine (DTaP-IPV)
G841 – Pentavalent vaccine (DTaP-IPV-Hib)
G842 – Hepatitis B vaccine
G843 – HPV vaccine
G844 – Conjugate meningococcal C vaccine
G845 – Conjugate pneumococcal vaccine
G846 – Conjugate pneumococcal vaccine
G847 – DTaP vaccine
G848 – Varicella vaccine.

But what if you the vaccine that is being administered doesn’t fall into one of the above categories?  G538 is for any immunization not specified above.

So now what do you bill when a patient is seen solely for a flu shot?  G700 should be billed alongside G590.  For further details on the above-noted codes or billing applications, members should refer to our Billing Module database.

  1. What is the difference between G845 and G846, is there one for Prevnar 13 and one for Pneumovax 23?
